The Wade 808 6 Ultra continues the basic formula established by the 808 5 Ultra V2 rather than replacing it with a completely different platform. Both use removable drop-in cushioning and carbon-fiber reinforcement, while the newer model changes how several of these components are configured.

The most meaningful differences are found in the upper, cushioning system, support structure, carbon-plate layout, and outsole.

Upper Construction

The 808 5 Ultra V2 uses upgraded upper materials and an updated construction intended to improve lockdown and overall fit compared with the earlier 808 5 Ultra.

For the 808 6 Ultra, Li-Ning introduces its ULTRA SHELL upper. The change gives the newer model a different upper architecture while retaining the containment and support expected from the 808 series.

Rather than treating this as a simple change in thickness or softness, it is more accurate to view it as another adjustment to how the upper balances support, fit, and breathability.

The 808 5 Ultra V2 uses a full-length SUPER BOOM drop-in midsole, preserving the low-profile and removable cushioning concept that defines the 808 line.

The 808 6 Ultra moves to a dual-density SUPER BOOM drop-in midsole. Its primary midsole structure uses a higher-density formulation, while a lower-density section is incorporated around the heel.

This allows different areas of the drop-in to perform different cushioning roles instead of using a more uniform foam configuration throughout the entire platform.

Support Structure

The 808 5 Ultra V2 combines a full-length TPU support structure with carbon-fiber reinforcement underneath the drop-in system.

The 808 6 Ultra reorganizes this setup into several more clearly separated structural components: an upward-wrapping forefoot TPU structure, a midfoot carbon-fiber plate, and a LIGHT FOAM ULTRA heel structure.

The front TPU section primarily contributes to lateral containment around the forefoot, while the rear structure provides support around the heel. The carbon plate remains concentrated through the middle of the shoe to provide torsional reinforcement.

This is one of the clearest structural changes between the two generations: the 808 6 Ultra distributes different support functions across more specialized components.

Carbon-Fiber Plate

Both shoes use carbon-fiber reinforcement, so the presence of a carbon plate itself is not new to the 808 6 Ultra.

What changes is the way the newer shoe presents and integrates the plate within the overall support system. On the 808 6 Ultra, the plate is concentrated around the midfoot rather than functioning as a rigid structure across the entire forefoot.

This preserves torsional support through the center of the shoe while leaving the front section relatively free to flex during transitions and multidirectional movement.

Outsole Configuration

The outsole represents another straightforward generational change.

The 808 5 Ultra V2 uses a hybrid TUFF RB + GCU outsole. The two materials serve different areas of the traction system, combining rubber intended for abrasion resistance with GCU traction sections.

The 808 6 Ultra instead uses a full-length GCU outsole, creating a more consistent material configuration across the bottom of the shoe.

That change should not automatically be interpreted as better traction or better durability in every situation. Court surface, dust, playing style, and long-term wear can all affect real-world outsole performance.

Final Thoughts

The Wade 808 6 Ultra is better understood as a refinement of the 808 5 Ultra V2 platform than as a complete redesign.
