Li-Ning Liren 7 Basketball Shoes Performance Test by Sky Yee

This performance review is based on an on-court test conducted by Sky Yee, one of VJSNEAKER's content partners.

The Li-Ning Liren 7 showed a clear performance direction during the test: a solid-but-springy ride, quick first-step response, noticeable forefoot propulsion, and a low-to-the-ground feel.

Although the shoe uses a relatively complex underfoot structure, it still retains enough forefoot flexibility to avoid feeling excessively restrictive during movement.

Upper

The Liren 7 is available with different upper configurations.

The woven version provides a softer and more comfortable feel, while also offering better breathability in warmer conditions.

For heavier players, or those who place more stress on the upper and prefer a more structured feel, the hot-melt fused version may be the more suitable option.

The difference between the two versions is therefore not purely cosmetic. The choice of upper also changes the overall softness and structure around the foot.

Cushioning and Response

Cushioning and forefoot response were among the most noticeable aspects of the Liren 7 during the test.

The underfoot feel can be described as solid but springy. Rather than focusing primarily on softness, the setup responds quickly when initiating the first step.

Forefoot propulsion is also noticeable during acceleration, giving the shoe a responsive feel when transitioning into the next movement.

The underfoot structure includes:

  • Full-Length SUPER BOOM Fill-In
  • Dual-Wrap Structure
  • Anti-Torsion Plate
  • BOOM Frame
  • Forefoot Propulsion Plate
  • Outsole: TUFF RB + Longji Traction Structure

Despite the number of structural layers underfoot, the forefoot still flexes naturally during movement.

One specific observation from the test was that forefoot flexion did not create an obvious pulling sensation through the plantar fascia.

This gives the Liren 7 a structured platform without translating that structure into an excessively rigid ride.

Movement and Support

The Liren 7 was tested through repeated accelerations, stops, lateral movements, and changes of direction.

The structured setup did not produce any obvious discomfort during the session, while the forefoot retained enough flexibility for natural transitions.

The Liren 7 also uses a full board-lasted construction, creating a more integrated connection between the upper and the underfoot platform. Together with the Dual-Wrap Structure, this gives the midfoot a more structured and secure feel.

Another notable characteristic is how low the shoe feels to the ground.

Combined with the quick first-step response and noticeable forefoot propulsion, this low-to-the-ground sensation gives the Liren 7 a fast and responsive character during multidirectional movement.

Outsole

The outsole combines TUFF RB rubber with the Longji Traction Structure.

During the test, the shoe was used through repeated starts, stops, lateral movements, and directional changes.

This session was not intended as a long-term durability assessment or a comprehensive evaluation across multiple court conditions. More court time would be needed before drawing broader conclusions regarding outsole durability and performance on different surfaces.

Fit and Wrap

The Dual-Wrap Structure is also an important part of the Liren 7's fit.

Wrap-focused structures can sometimes create localized pressure, but no obvious discomfort was reported after this session.

There is, however, one specific foot-shape consideration.

Players with a wide or thick outer arch, or a higher-volume lateral midfoot, may experience pressure along the outside of the midfoot.

For players with this type of foot shape, trying the shoe on before purchasing would be advisable.

Overall Performance

The Li-Ning Liren 7 has a clearly defined performance character.

Its main characteristics are a solid-but-springy ride, quick first-step response, strong forefoot propulsion, a low-to-the-ground feel, and a structured platform that still retains natural forefoot flexibility.

Forefoot response is one of the most distinctive aspects of the shoe. It reacts quickly when initiating movement and provides a noticeable sense of propulsion during acceleration without making the forefoot feel completely locked out.

The low-to-the-ground platform also complements this performance direction, particularly during quick starts and frequent changes of direction.

The main fit consideration is the lateral midfoot, especially for players with a wider or thicker outer arch.

Based on this on-court test by Sky Yee, the Liren 7 appears particularly well suited to guard and wing movement styles that emphasize quick initiation, acceleration, and multidirectional movement.
